War

The final war to end all wars,
Set brother against brother,
The bloody conflict spread abroad
Killing sister, father, mother.

They fought on land, they fought at sea,
And in the air they battled,
No weapon was too bad to use.
Death’s rusty sabre rattled.

The war raged on, each country fought,
Its aim to destroy the other,
Soon few remained to raise a flag,
Life’s candle began to flicker.

Mushrooms rose with clouds of ash,
Soot blackened all the skies,
Then plague arose and stalked the land,
Survivors dropped like flies.

A sterile world of sand and rock
The curse for shedding blood
But, if brother cannot love his kin,
How can he love his God?
